How to Plan Your Hiking Elopement

  1. choose your ideal scenery

The first step in planning a hiking elopement is for you to decide on your ceremony location. Mountains, forests, waterfalls - all potential wedding backdrops.

Once you decide on the setting I will compile a list of elopement locations for you based on the amount of hiking you want to do.

• outdoor elopement locations

• eloping in a national park

• park passes and permits

2. decide on a hiking distance

In order for me to find the perfect hiking elopement location for you - together you must determine how much you want to hike.

It doesn’t matter if you are new to hiking and you’ve never been on a trail before!

In Mt. Rainier National Park there are insane views five steps from the parking lot. Washington is full of elopement locations that require little to no physical exertion.

No matter what your experience level is, I know I have a perfect outdoor elopement location for you in mind!

3. create a timeline

Once you have your elopement location chosen we will start to craft a timeline.

When I create an elopement timeline I take three main things into account: location, activity, and the optimal time to take photographs. The best time to take pictures is around sunrise and sunset.

Golden hour is the first hour after sunrise and the hour after sunset. Pictures taken around this time have beautiful sun flares and glowing orange soft light.

I also love shooting during blue hour which is half an hour before sunrise and 20-30 minutes after sunset. Blue hour tends to produce dark, moody, and dramatic images.

Here are my tips on creating your own elopement timeline.

4. hiking elopement checklist

Remember, it’s doesn’t matter if you’ve never hiked before. I promise I will make sure you are completely prepared.

I will create personalized gear checklists for you and your partner depending on your specific elopement location.

If you are looking for some quick checklists for outdoor elopement here are a few blog posts:

5. consider a multi-day elopement

There are several couples that don’t want to hike on their wedding day but they still want epic pictures on a mountain top.

How is that possible? Welcome to multi-day elopements.

Have a relaxed ceremony on day one then go on an epic adventure on day two.

If you are torn between a traditional wedding and getting amazing outdoor photos then a multi-day elopement may be perfect for you.
