Elopement Booking Checklist
Elopements are simple to plan compared to traditional weddings.
But, you don’t want to forget any of the basics like travel, flowers, and who is going to document you looking so damn good in your dress.
That’s why I created a master elopement checklist so you know what to book ahead of time.
In each section, I also provide a bullet list of questions to ask yourself or a potential vendor throughout the booking process.
Remember, if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or need assistance - reach out! I’m always here to help.
1. Travel
How are you getting to your elopement location? Do you need to book a flight or rental car?
Flights are the first thing I tell couples to book once they know their elopement date and location.
Work on remaining transportation once you know where you are staying for your accommodations.
do you need to book flights or a rental car for your elopement?
how will you get to your accommodations from the airport?
how will you to your ceremony location from your accommodations?
2. Accommodations
Most couples combine their elopement with their dream honeymoon location. You can stay in a hotel, Airbnb, VRBO, in a tent, or the back of a sprinter van.
The night before your wedding, I recommend booking accommodations that are within an hour of your elopement location. Of course, don’t forget to have accommodations booked for your wedding night as well.
are your accommodations close enough to your ceremony location?
are you allowed to plan an event at your accommodations?
what amenities does this accommodation have?
are you close to a grocery store or restaurant?
3. Elopement Activity
Are you going off-roading for the day? Taking a hot air balloon ride? Having a guided tour on a camel through the desert?
Try to book these adventures early in your elopement planning so you are sure you can do the activities you want.
are there permits you must obtain for this adventure activity?
do you need a local guide?
is there any specific clothing or gear you will need to pack for this activity?
4. Videographer / Photographer
When looking for a videographer and photographer make sure they are excited to partake in your adventure elopement. If they are uncomfortable in their surroundings it will show in their work.
Book someone who sees the value in your elopement and will be thrilled to spend the entire day adventuring with you.
do you like/vibe with this person, are you excited to spend time with them?
do they charge extra fees for travel and accommodations?
do they charge by the hour?
how long are they willing to film/photograph for?
are they comfortable with your elopement activity and are they willing to partake?
5. Officiant / Witnesses
Depending on where you are eloping, you may or may not need witnesses or an officiant. Be aware of state laws and book appropriately.
If you need a recommendation for an officiant I’m here to help. You can also have a friend or family member officiate your wedding as long as they get ordained.
Pro tip: your videographer and photographer can sign as your two witnesses.
do you feel connected to what they say?
are they okay with what you want to be said at your ceremony?
do their views and values match yours?
do they marry same-sex couples? (THIS INFURIATES ME THAT YOU NEED TO ASK THIS)
are they willing to hike or partake in your activity or adventure?
how does their pricing structure work, do they charge by the hour or per event?
6. Hair and Make-Up Artist
I completely understand if this is not on your elopement checklist. But, it can be pretty fun to get pampered on your wedding day.
If you elope in the PNW I know an amazing hairstylist and a make-up artist who both do flawless work.
I also pack a bridal emergency kit containing hair spray, dry shampoo, hairbrush, bobby pins, clips, and fun velvet scrunchies.
are they able to create a look that will last through your adventure elopement?
can they give you tips on how to keep your look lasting through the day?
are they willing to travel to your accommodations the morning of your wedding?
do they bring their own products or do you need to provide your own?
7. Florist
I love it when brides strap a big beautiful bouquet on their backpacks.
Flowers just complete a bridal look. If you are planning on getting a bouquet made, here are a few questions to ask potential florists:
do they have a minimum dollar amount that you are required to spend?
can they create a bouquet that will be able to withstand the elements and be strapped to your backpack?
do they know what the local flowers are for the region you are eloping in?
what hardy florals do they recommend?
will the florals need to be picked up or will they be delivered?
Hi, I’m Alex!
How do you feel?
Are you leaning more towards excitement or overwhelm?
If you are feeling anxious or like this is too big of a too do list, remember, you don’t have to plan this alone.
Let’s work through this together.
