Elopement Backpack Checklist

Hey guys! It’s Alex - your adventure elopement photographer!

I wanted to create a checklist of what items should be in your elopement backpack if you are planning on hiking during your elopement.

If you have any questions about which items you will need for your elopement don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m here to help!

  1. outdoor essentials

The following items are all essential for hiking elopements. I have kits for all of my couples so they don’t need to purchase these items (with the exception of personal clothing items).

  • first aid kit

  • headlamp

  • knife

  • whistle

  • bivy / emergency shelter

  • fire starter

  • water

  • food

  • sun protection

  • navigation / compass / map

  • extra clothing

2. elopement ceremony ideas

Make sure you bring proof of permits when you head out for your hike. Everything else is subjective to your ceremony structure. Make sure you don’t forget to bring a pen to sign your marriage license!

  • vows / poems / letters

  • marriage license

  • wedding ceremony permit

  • photography permit

3. bridal emergency kit

This list is highly customizable to what you want to bring. Use this as a base checklist and pack the items you want.

  • dry shampoo

  • deodorant

  • face wipes

  • chapstick

  • makeup bag

  • mini hairbrush

  • bobby pins

  • sunscreen

  • safety pins

4. extra hiking clothes

Washington’s weather can change at a moment’s notice. You will be warm while hiking, but when you get to the summit, the wind is anything but warm.

90% of the time you won’t use your extra layers. However, you must always be prepared for an emergency situation, such as staying on the mountain overnight. Always have more clothing than you think you will need.

  • insulated layer

  • rain jacket

  • gloves

  • beanie

  • extra wool socks

5. food and drinks

There is nothing better than PB&J, a bag of chips, and a cold beer at the top of a long hike.

Whatever food you bring make sure it’s enough for you to feel full.

But there is no harm in doing something a little festive! [And always bring water!]

  • Champagne, beer, whiskey, La Croix

  • Something salty: chips, crackers, trail mix

  • Protein: hummus, almond butter, protein bars

  • Carbohydrates: sandwich, dried fruit, chocolate, fruit leather, apples
